Special events for early 2010

The "Fallas" in Valencia and Easter in Segorbe take place in March and April 2009 and are two spectacular festivals offering unrivalled visual inspiration for Artists and Photographers of any age.

The spectacular Fallas festival take place from March 13th-19th 2010 and Good Friday is April 2nd. This allows the visitor a chance to experience at least one of the most visually exciting festivals in Europe.

Visit Valencia to see the Fallas and be amazed at the unrivalled creativity and craftsmanship of Spain's  Artists and Artisans working in collaboration with local people to produce monumental sculptures.
This festival has its roots in the Middle Ages when carpenters used to light a bonfire on 19th March in celebration of St Joseph Day, San José in Spanish.

This is Public Art on a grand scale with the whole city, (and several towns in the region) given over to a week long festival involving spectacular firework displays, endless revelry, culminating in the ritual burning of the Fallas on the night of March 19th.

Easter in Spain remains a

sombre week long celebration.

Known as the "Semana Santa", this festival is marked by religious processions with hooded witnesses in satin robes carrying statues of the crucifixion through the streets of the town.

Weighed down by floats and an abundance of flowers, the procession winds a slow path lined with onlookers, between Church and chapel, as bands play slow and rhythmically and incense fills the air.

The slow moving procession allows plenty of time to take photographs or find a convenient location to sketch or paint unobtrusively.
